Teaching Strategy. The purpose of this course introduction is to show students the importance of scientific writing in the careers of engineers and scientists. This day also gives an overview of the most important principles of scientific writing.

In-Class Exercise: With a partner, discuss the best piece of scientific writing or nonfiction that you have read. Why was that document so effective?.
Quiz: Diagnostic quiz on Canvas that determines whether students make common grammatical errors. In essence, this quiz determines whether students need to shore up their understanding of grammar s for the following reasons: (1) so that the students do not embarrass themselves in their job correspondence and internship reports, and (2) so that the students are in a position to learn sophisticated ways to connect ideas in their writing.
